The archmage known as Etienne d'Amberville is one of the few mortals of Mystara to achieve a status as an immortal all on his own. He managed to tap into a device known as the Nucleus of the Spheres, in which helped him power his magic considerable and called this energy the "Radiance". Originally haling from the world of Laterre, he traveled and relocated his family to the kingdom of Glantri on Mystara. On his homeworld magic was outlawed, and he was on of the last who kept the tradition of magic and alchemy alive.
Although he managed to achieve Immortality, he keeps low profile and continues on as his mortal self. He is a champion of magic, and is the founder of the Great School of Magecraft in Glantri.
